My Skin – Music Video

Posted on September 8th, 2009 by admin

This is a music video (Natalie Merchant’s song “My Skin”) I made for a college project. I enjoyed both shooting and editing the video. I wanted to convey the sadness, and haunting atmosphere that I felt from the song. To clarify- the song is sung by Natalie Merchant and the actress is not Natalie Merchant. One other thing, since this comes up quite often, yes the lip syncing is off but there is nothing I can do about it since the actress did not know the words to the song, nor took the time to learn them.

Natalie Merchant – Carnival – lyrics – Beautifully Live ! 1999 – TigerLily

Posted on September 5th, 2009 by admin

A rare sensuality – Natalie Merchant in “Carnival” – Lyrics : ” I’ve walked these streets
A virtual stage
It seemed to me
Make up on their faces
Actors took their
Places next to me

I’ve walked these streets
In a carnival
Of sights to see
All the cheap thrill seekers
The vendors and the dealers
They crowded around me

Have I been blind
Have I been lost
Inside my self and
My own mind
Hypnotized
Mesmerized
By what my eyes have seen?

I’ve walked these streets
In a spectacle of wealth and poverty
In the diamond markets
The scarlet welcome carpet
That they just rolled out for me

I’ve walked these streets
In the mad house asylum
They can be
Where a wild eyed misfit prophet
On a traffic island stopped
And he raved of saving me

Have I been blind
Have I been lost
Inside my self and
My own mind
Hypnotized
Mesmerized
By what my eyes have seen?

Have I been wrong
Have I been wise
To shut my eyes
And play along
Hypnotized
Paralyzed
By what my eyes have found
By what my eyes have seen
What they have seen?

Have I been blind
Have I been lost
Inside my self and
My own mind
Hypnotized
Mesmerized.

By what my eyes have found
In that great street carnival
In that carnival?” – Live, Neil Simon Theatre, New York, 1999.- Album : Tigerlily, 1995.

Natalie Merchant – “Jealousy” Live

Posted on September 2nd, 2009 by admin

Ooh, jealousy
Ooh, my jealousy

Is she fine, so well-bred
The perfect girl, a social deb?
And is she the sort, that you’ve always thought
Could make, could make you what you’re not?

Is she smart, so well-read
Are there books, are there novels by her bed?
And is she the sort that you’ve always said
Could satisfy your head?

Ooh, jealousy
La, la, la…ooh, my jealousy
Na, na, na, na…my jealousy

Does she talk, the way I do?
Is her voice, is her voice reminding you
Of the promises, the little white lies, too
Sometimes, tell me, while she’s touching you
Just by mistake, accidentally, do you say my name?

Natalie Merchant – My Skin

Posted on August 4th, 2009 by admin

:)

Take a look at my body
Look at my hands
There’s so much here that I don’t understand
Your face say these promises
Whispered like prayers
I don’t need them
Because I’ve been treated so wrong
I’ve been treated so long
As if I’m becoming untouchable
Well content loves the silence
It thrives in the dark
With fine winding tendrils
That strangle the heart
They say that promises sweeten the blow
But I don’t need them, no
I don’t need them
I’ve been treated so wrong
I’ve been treated so long
As if I’m becoming untouchable
I’m the slow dying flower
In the frost killing hour
Sweet turning sour and untouchable
Oh, I need the darkness
The sweetness
The sadness
The weakness
Oh, I need this
I need a lullaby
A kiss good night
Angel sweet love of my life
Oh, I need this
I’m the slow dying flower
In the frost killing hour
Sweet turning sour and untouchable
Do you remember the way that you touched me before
All the trembling sweetness I loved and adored
Your face saying promised whispered like prayers
I don’t need them
Oh, I need the darkness
The sweetness
The sadness
The weakness
Oh, I need this
I need a lullaby
A kiss good night
Angel sweet love of my life
Oh, I need this
Well is it dark enough
Can you see me
Do you want me
Can you reach me
Oh, I’m leaving
You better shut your mouth
And hold your breath
And kiss me now
And catch your death
Oh, I mean this
Oh, I mean this
