What happens if a merchant issues a return on an item on a credit card that has a zero balance?

For example, I pay off my credit card, I have a zero balance. I decide i don’t want something and return it to the merchant, how will the new balance look like? Will it affect the outcome of my highest available balance
obviously but if my credit limit show as higher because of this
Simple, it becomes a credit balance. If you don’t use the credit you may ask for a check.
Your limit will NOT show higher. Your account will show a negative amount due.
This is not an extreme action it happens all the time…………..

Your credit limit won’t be higher.
If you don’t spend any of the credit for a month, they’ll refund it to you.

No, it won’t show a higher credit limit. You will just have a credit on the account which will be included in your new balance on the next statement. If you don’t make any further charges, you would just have a credit balance.
If you want a refund of the credit balance, you probably will have to send a letter requesting the refund and it may take at least 2 months before you get it. If it’s a small amount, it’s just easier to charge something on the account to use up the credit balance

You will have a credit on your card
If you want the money, call the credit card company and ask them to send you a check for this credit.
