(Comments are monitored) – Lyrics : ” Ground control to Major Tom
Ground control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on

Ground control to Major Tom
Commencing countdown, engines on
Check ignition and may gods love be with you

Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five,
Four, three, two, one, lift off

This is ground control to Major Tom
You4ve really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now its time to leave the capsule if you dare

This is Major Tom to ground control
Im stepping through the door
And Im floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet earth is blue
And theres nothing I can do

Though Im past one hundred thousand miles
Im feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell me wife I love her very much she knows

Ground control to Major Tom
Your circuits dead, there4s something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom ?..

Here am I floating round my tin can
Far above the moon
Planet earth is blue
And theres nothing I can do. Space oddity, Bowie, by Natalie Merchant, Live, Neil Simon Theatre, New York, 1999.- Album : Tigerlily, 1995.

Gosh, this is an example of a great singer not having the good sense to know when a song is out of her league. This cover is downright awful.

This song was the first song inducted into my personal pop/rock single hall of fame back in 1986 – to get in a song has to send me when I first experience it and then send me again over a decade later – Natalie is one of 20 inducted into my personal female pop/rock recording artist hall of fame. I love her version of this song. I’ve been hearing about Cat Power but have yet to hear a song by her. So jzoom45 I’ll be seeking out Cat Powers version and expect it to send me into interstellar space.

Oh, yeah, this is glorious, as is usually the case with something Natalie touches :-) . I’ll bet even Bowie digs it (aside from the royalties *chuckle!*), which gives me an idea — imagine a duet, with Natalie as “Ground Control” and DB as “Major Tom”. *That* would bring down the house! :-D
