Do we have to take training course for Merchant Marine if we were prior military? and how is the job different from the navy?

Generally speaking you have to have enough sea time to qualify you for any position that you are testing for. I had 8+ years at sea, but the USCG only counts 40% of your time, I still had enough to qualify for AB Unlimited. That being said, you are not going to pass that exam without a good working knowledge, and the only place to get that is in 1st or 2nd Div in the Navy or Coast Guard. n If you wanted to go as an engineer then you’d need experience in the engine room.

There has not been a merchant marine in the US since after WW2. If you want a job on a merchant ship, and there are not that many of them that are US flagged these days then you’d need to get a Z-Card from the USCG and join the NMU to see what ships are open.

To join MSC as Boats said, you still need the Z-Card. But you can get a job as an unliscensed member, either a steward or wiper or ordinary seaman that works in the deck dept

I recommend being able to accept credit card payments yourself by opening your own merchant account, you can go to http://www.merchantisland.com it’s fast and easy to apply. I did it and got approved quickly and it was free! I was what they considered to be high risk because of my low credit score. I was amazed at how fast and easy I was able to get started. My business has taken off since I started accepting credit cards. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I would hope so, but not in the American merchant fleet. The unions in America have destroyed our merchant fleet by demanding higher than is necessary union wages. Americas union fleet is almost non existent thanks to the unions and their comrades in government. A really sad situation. You can thank the left wing liberal socialist democrats for the demise of our merchant fleet.

I am planning on starting my own business and operating a kiosk at a mall setting. This is my first time starting a business and would like to know how to choose a merchant services provider so that i can accept credit/debit cards at my business. Any help is appreciated.

Normally your bank can with your corporate account. Bank of America charges a transaction fee of over 2.48 %+ on all transactions. Depending on what your business is, you may wish to visit http://ishopbuz.com, and click through Maverick Money Makers and LinkShare where you will have access to over 5000 fine merchants to sell products for: while earning commissions from sales generated from your business and/or Web site. You may also go to http://www.CCR.gov and register your company as a contractor (no charge) where government employees can make purchases from small businesses under $100,000., and, $5,000. (without having to have a requisition with their government credit cards online), which is accessed through your business phone/DSL line. FirstData.com may also assist you. I hope this helps you.

The answer is yes. I do not think the old saying “you don’t get nothing for nothing but nothing” applies in the case of the furniture industry, customers could very well be getting what they paid for and a whole lot more when it comes to delivery.

I have taken on a new contract job that will require me to accept credit card payments online or over the phone. I absolutely -can not- afford to lose this job offer as I have already invested a lot of time and money in attaining it and preparing for it.

The developer I am working with had recommended ProPay as a merchant service because they base most of their instructions on the use of ProPay. I went ahead and made an account there, but when I went to process my first orders I had found that the service had been manually cut off. No direct reasons were given, but I suspect it is because someone went and ran a manual personal credit check on me.

I have a credit score of 600, due to a series of unfortunate events where my family decided to abuse my generosity. Of course, you can not explain this hard-lesson-learned to banks.

This said, does anyone have any suggestions for a merchant account service that I can use that will accept me without a credit check or with a score like mine?

It needs to be newbie-friendly, as I have never had to accept payments before or have an account. It also should allow me to send invoices and allow customers to pay directly online; there should not be a very low cap on the monthly transactions, because I do anticipate a large number of sales. I can pay for any fees, so long as they are not predatory and rediculous.

With your poor credit the only choice that meets your criteria is Paypal. They don’t do credit checks and have an easy interface to use. They also allow you to send invoices and receive payments online.

My merchant service is bank of america and My credit card machine is not working because they tell me they need to download a program but I have to have an analog phone service .In America nobody use analog phone service.Stupid merchant service doesnt help me.I asked them maybe that I can send the machine to them and they can fix but they dont do that too.I am going crazy .Please help me!What I can do or to where I can make a complain about them
I am not asking or analyzing analog phone service which I couldnt get anyway in NY.Joe r are you trying protect these companies or answering my question.I am trying to find a solution for my merchant machine.I dont need to explain all the trouble they gave me but I deal with them everyday so do not try make me look bad here ok.

what are you talking about in america nobody uses analog phone service??

sure VoIP is gaining popularity with consumers across the country, but there are still plenty of POTS (plain old telephone service) lines – which are just normal landlines, which are analog…

most businesses that have a credit card machine, fax, dial up modem, ATM machine, alarm system etc… should have at least one (analog) landline phone line for such uses….

what could you possibly complain about? that the telephone network has been around for over 100 years, and 100% of the population have access to reasonable priced service to this network, but because you moved your business over to some VoIP service, and did not leave any analog lines in your business for fax or credit card machines that it is somehow the responsibility, or problem of your merchant banker?

EDIT: you are saying that you can not get analog phone service in the US… or NY… analog phone service is regular landline telephone service… i still do 8-10 repairs on landline phone lines every day in NY… so I do not understand how you claim that analog phone service is not available in NY… all home/business phone service is analog except for VoIP…
