A Yahoo Ecommerce Store or an Ebay Store?

Posted on September 26th, 2009 by admin

I would like to know the pros and cons of both. I have made a list of what I think of each but would like others input just in case I forgot to think about something.

I know with ebay I wouldnt have to advertise so aggressively but then there are the fees and possibly being scammed. And with the Yahoo Merchant store I could possibly design a professional site and avoid so many different fees. Yahoo would requiremore aggressive advertising and still presents the oppurtunity of being scammed.

I would just like the opinions of others. THANX!

CREATING YOUR OWN WEBSITE

Pros
- allows you to establish your own "real estate" on the Web;
- allows you to attract a bigger audience; not limited to eBay buyers (not everyone buys on eBay)
- scaleable as it allows your business to grow;
- allows you to give more information about your business to your visitors and give them reasons to trust you
- allows you to give more information about the product, play around with factors that can increase conversion
- gives you a more professional look
- makes you look like a "big" business (an e-commerce seller that also sells on ebay "looks" so much bigger than a purely ebay seller)
- you can put in as many items you want without paying listing fees
- you can sell as many items as you can without paying value added fees
- less restrictions than eBay (you are more free to write your sales copy)
- easier to market on the Web

Cons:
- requires technical knowhow to create a website (or money to pay someone to do it for you)
- fixed price (price you set is what you get)

SELLING ON EBAY

Pros
- auction format; prices can go up higher than you originally set it for
- eBay’s brand and size of its market

Cons
- listing and final value fees
- lots of restrictions
- harder to get onto search engines
- link exchanges are more difficult
- increasing competition (it is not as easy to sell now on eBay compared to others)

I would say it depends on what you want with your business. If you have a steady supply of product to sell (not just based on what you can find in your attic), I would go create a website – and THEN use eBay as an additional sales channel. You just have more room to operate and grow your business with having your own store.

I am starting off small with an ecommerce website that I hope to grow quickly… who is best as credit gateway?

There are so many different companies, with so many different rate plans. I’d appreciate your insight. My ecommerce software can handling the following service providers — but I need you to give me your thoughts on who I should choose. I do not have an interest in paypal or google checkout as it seems less professional to me.

* 2Checkout
* Amazon.comm SimplePay
* Authorize.net
* Beanstream
* Camtech (Now SecurePay)
* Cardservice International
* ChronoPay API
* ChronoPay Hosted Page
* Cybersource
* Cynergy Data
* E-Xact
* eWay
* Google Checkout
* HSBC Secure ePayments
* Innovate Gateway
* LinkPoint Connect
* MIGS
* Moneris eSelect Plus
* MoneyBookers
* MyVirtual Merchant
* NetBanx
* Netbilling
* NetRegistry

* USA ePay
* WorldPay
* YourPay Connect

Hello, I have spent a lot of time looking at different payment gateways for my e commerce sites. I decided on Authorize.net
They are professional and the customer service is great. I have never had problem reaching them when I had questions.

I was thinking like you about Paypal. But then I kept getting requests from customers to add paypal. After so many customers asking about it, I did add Paypal to my e commerce site. I didn’t realize how many people shop using Paypal accounts.
Anyway, I just wanted to share that with you.

I hope this helps.

web hosting or merchant plan?

Posted on September 22nd, 2009 by admin

if i wanted to make a web site to sell my images and i am using dreamweaver can i get the web hosting account from yahoo instead of the merchant account because it is cheaper, or will i get into trouble. I do not need all that crap that they offer to build a web site.

http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/webhosting/

http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/ecommerce/

thanks

I would read the terms of service.

If the standard hosting account doesn’t permit you to sell any item from that hosting account then you’ll have to go either with the merchant account or to get hosting from another provider.

What is the best eCommerce software for SEO?

Posted on September 20th, 2009 by admin

Okay, I have an online store and I need an eCommerce software solution that provides the following:
1. Writes HTML without added "fluff" coding that impedes optimal SEO
2. Easy WYSIWYG editor – again that doesn’t add superfluous code
3. Graphic customization and template options
4. Payment features integrated with paypal and other merchant accounts
5. No commission fee based on sales
6. Integration with billing software like Quickbooks
7. Streamlined Order processing
8. Integration with USPS click and ship for shipping labels.
9. Inventory control
10. Automated drop shipping function.
I am currently using an eCommerce solution but it generates 10 x more html code than it needs and I’ve read this can be detrimental for SEO. It also has limitations as it integrates with Paypal because I cannot ship through it. I have to process orders through my site and process shipping through paypal. There are other features I don’t like as well, all detrimental to SEO, like page name conventions are numbered rather than having the name of the page, and how things link to a default.asp page instead of the .com main home page. I am a graphic designer and my husband is a programmer so we can handle pretty complete software but we need something that does it all and WELL for Search Engine Optimization!!!
We have been pretty successful with our own SEO – we’ve done the backlinking and article submissions, small paid advertising in key markets and such. In 6 months we’ve gone from a 1 to a page rank of 3 on Google. But we can do better and don’t want our eCommerce software to hinder us in any way.

Site is: www.babysproutnaturals.com
The page rank 3 is what I’m listed at when I go to www.page-rank-lookup.com. Google has only indexed 2 page of my pages (the home page and /category_s/36.htm) with external links with a total of 174 links (I know there are more that Google isn’t counting yet).

Besides your domain name, what "generic" keywords query do you submit at google.com in order to bring up your PR3 website. I tried searching for "organic baby apparel," and your website is no where to be found within 500,000 or so search results? Who’s providing the PR3 ranking?

Nevertheless, here’s a preliminary review of your SEO metatags along with some suggested improvements:

1. Current: <title>Cloth Diapers, Organic Baby Apparel and Unique Gifts for Mommy and Baby! Live Natural Baby! </title>
<meta name="robots" content="index,follow">

Improvement by eliminating spamdexed/duplicate entries and ad copy followed by a territory/business locator, i.e., city, state: <title>Cloth Diapers, Organic Baby Apparel, Unique Gifts for Mothers, Natural, Non-Toxic | Fair Oaks, California</title>
<meta name="robots" content="index,follow">

2. Current: <META NAME="Description" CONTENT="Our mission is to offer safe, organic, non-toxic products for infants and mothers: cloth diapers, bumgenius cloth diapers, Happy Heiny’s cloth diapers, Wrap n Wear baby carriers, Nature Momma Angel Baby, The Baby Bunch layette sets, Zee Spot Organic Onesies, Vulli non-toxic rubber toys. It is our goal to provide education about affordable product alternatives for mommy and baby that are not only better for infants and the environment, but have additional benefits by providing healthier solutions for busy, working families and actually save you money! Baby Sprout Naturals aims to inspire you to make a change in your purchasing habits, and to eliminate toxic and harmful products from your everyday use. Help us save the earth, one baby at a time!">

Improvement: Re-editing of this entry to no more than 45 words forming a singular sentence.

3. Current: <META NAME="Keywords" CONTENT="bumGenius, diapers, cloth, baby, mother, mom, mommy, babies, cloth diapers, cloth diaper, cloth diapering, cloth-diapers, diaper, natural, nontoxic, non-toxic, environmental, earth friendly, easy, Happy Heiny’s, pocket diaper, all in one, one size, friendly, fun, games, education, articles, environmental articles, Wrap n Wear, Baby Legs, Leg warmers, cotton diaper, Vulli, toys, The Baby Bunch, onesie bouquets, natural parenting, granola mommy, organic apparel, unique gifts, Nature Momma Angel Baby, Wild Dill toys, Nubius Organics, Sckoon Organics, Isabooties Shoes, Conduct Happiness Apparel, The Playful Penguin Toys, RosiePosie Organics, Baby Earth.">

Improvement with removal of spamdexed/duplicate entries, use of compound and plural variations and finalization of all entries to no more than 15 ‘generic’ keywords total: <META NAME="Keywords" CONTENT="diapers, cloth, baby, mother, mommy, babies, natural, nontoxic, environmental, earth friendly, easy, pocket, all in one, size, fun, games, education, articles, environmental, toys, bouquets, natural parenting, unique gifts">

Hopefully you will be able to incorporate these improvements which follow the Google.com guidelines in order to elevate your PR by use of effective SEO metatags.

Good luck!

Chainfusion Ltd or Buybuttonz are they a safe or is Paypal better?

Posted on September 18th, 2009 by admin

are there any merchants who provide ecommerce payment gateway services other than chainfusion ltd or buybuttonz?

PayPal man, realistically they’re all going to be secure, otherwise they wouldn’t exist – thats the whole point of these services. PayPal FTW – simple and secure.

what do i really need to set up an online store?

Posted on September 14th, 2009 by admin

I would like to start up an online store.
I’m not familiar with what’s what, like… ecommerce site vs. shopping cart vs merchant acct. vs. payment gateway? I would like to offer buyers the option to use credit cards. What is a merchant account? Do I need that first, before I look for an ecommerce site? What is the difference between an ecommerce site and a shopping cart site? I thought they were the same? Can anyone tell me or point me in the right direction? Maybe a good resource link so I can research myself?
thanks in advance.

I set one up for my ex about three years ago. And here’s the answer as far as I can remember:

A merchant account is what you set up with a bank or an ISP. There’s usually a set-up fee, a monthly fee and a 3% per transaction fee. Banks sometimes provides you with a credit card machine, so if your customers provide you with their credit card info online, you can either manually punch that into the credit card machine or sent that info to your bank to charge your customer, ISPs don’t offer you a physical credit card machine but their fees are usually lower. You will need a merchant account if you want to accept credit card payment. Alternatively, just go with Paypal.

A e-commerce site is just any site that allows visitors of the site and the owner of the site to do business electronically. It can be Business-to-Business or Business-to-Consumer. A shopping cart is a web program that "remembers" what a visitor to a website wants to buy and stores the merchandise in a virtual "cart" until the visitor decides to check out. The program also handles the credit card transaction.

I think back then we went with GoDaddy, cuz they have everything in one package — domain name, hosting, merchant account, shopping cart. And you don’t have to be very tech-savvy to set up a site with them. Personally, I think the eBay-Paypal combination is just as good, but of course, it seems more cool when you point people to www.yourname.com instead of eBay.

What exactly is Paypal and how does it work? How was it made and what is its competition?

Posted on September 12th, 2009 by admin

How was it made? Is it like a merchant account and shopping cart at an ecommerce site or is it something more?
what if I want to make something like that. How would I do it?

That information isn’t hard to find if you look on their site. Click on the link below.

Paypal supports several modes for merchants and consumers. It is, in effect, a bank.
