Which company has a better e-commerce solution?

Posted on October 12th, 2009 by admin

I want to open an online store but I don’t which company is better out there? Should I go with Network Solutions (http://ecommerce.networksolutions.com/) or Yahoo! Merchant Solutions (smallbusiness.yahoo.com/ecommerce/)? Maybe there is a better and cheaper company out there that I don’t know about? Any suggestions?

Thanks

It all depends on how much knowledge you have. If you know how to build an website with no help then you can use the cheapest provider like godaddy.com If you don’t know how to build a website then I would say Yahoo that is what I used at first to learn the basics. At least they build the templates and you just have to fill in your info and logos. Also, They have merchant accounts so you can accept credit cards and debit cards online. All around they do all the hard work for you and make it look easy. If you have knowledge then get godaddy.com and use dreamweaver to build your site. Good Luck to you

E-commerce help. Shipping question.?

E-commerce help. Shipping question.?
How does shipping work exactly, if I get a Yahoo! merchant ecommerce, then the ecommerce site will come up with a shipping price automatically, but at the post office, it is determined by weight. Is there ever a conflict in the prices at the post office and what the site generates for shipping

Many ecommerce solutions allow for entry of the weight of each item, and then use a table or API to determine the shipping cost based on the total weight of the order.

Unfortunately, this isn’t always accurate, because sometimes the weights are incorrect, or additional packaging is required, or items have odd shapes that trigger surcharges.

Of those merchants who charge based on "actual shipping cost" (and not a flat fee or standard rates), I would estimate that 90% to 95% would never charge the customer extra if the actual shipping cost were greater than the charge presented to the consumer at the time of purchase, unless the mistake were "obvious" (for example, if the consumer was told that their forklift weighed only 1 pound, but the real weight is 3,814 pounds).

software requirements for webhosting.?

Posted on October 8th, 2009 by admin

Hi,
Our Organization is planing to host a in-house website. They developed with C#.Net with SQL as database. My Question is what are the softwares required for hosting the website that should support the below requirements.
1.ASP v3.0,.NetFramework1. 1,Access Database DSNs,PHP 4.3 Scripting,CGI Bin and SSI,MDAC 2.8,ADO 2.8,Microsoft XML 4.0 SP2,Site Builder Tool,Photo Album Creator,Express Site Creation,Custom Site Creation,Windows Media HTTP Streaming,Flash/Shockwave,Microsoft® FrontPage 2002,
ECOMMERCE FEATURES
Merchant Manager,Integrated Merchants Include,Papal, Secure Trading,World pay,Virtual SSL
EMAIL FEATURES
50 POP3/Email Accounts,SMTP/Outgoing Mail,Catch-All Email Account,Web Based Interface,Sit email,Unlimited Aliases/Forwarding,Auto Responders,1 FTP Account(s)
SECURITY FACILITIES
Firewall Protected
Please let me know the software’s that required that should support the above features. Thank you fro the help.

Windows Server 2000 – 2003 32-bit as you base sever. Comes with IIS 5 or IIS 6, which supports ASP 3.0

You can get the Zend / PHP engine for Windows directly from http://www.php.net

IIS natively supports SSI. Perl (which you probably mean when you say CGI) is available from http://www.perl.com as a 32-bit executable.

MDAC 2.8,ADO 2.8,Microsoft XML 4.0 SP2: All these are built-in to Windows Server 2000 – 2003 or can be downloaded directly from Microsoft.

Site Builder Tool,Photo Album Creator,Express Site Creation,Custom Site Creation — this software is up to you. There are a number of freeware apps out there such as Joomla, Gallery, etc.

Windows Media HTTP Streaming — this is built into Windows Server 2003 and is available as an add-on for Windows Server 2000. However, support for it is scant; you will pay a hefty price to a consultant to get this up and running.

Merchant Manager,Integrated Merchants Include,Papal, Secure Trading,World pay,Virtual SSL: This is available for free in ZenCart.

50 POP3/Email Accounts,SMTP/Outgoing Mail,Catch-All Email Account,Web Based Interface,Sit email,Unlimited Aliases/Forwarding,Auto Responders,1 FTP Account(s): This is all supported by IIS with built-in SMTP and FTP service, but I would upgrade to SmarterMail http://www.smartertools.com/

Firewall Protected: This depends on your network. Generally speaking, proper router setup and network intrusion detection should suffice.

ACT! 2000 – Menu’s Have Dissappeared?

Posted on October 6th, 2009 by admin

My older ACT! 2000 software has lost it’s left menu bar and top menu.

I can drag the handles where the menus were, however there seems to be no option anywhere to restore these (tool bars and menus)

Using the <ALT>F and other keystroke menus I can work, but have no clue how to restore these left and top toolbars.

My old manual is history and the ACT 2000 for dummies is long out of stock in every store.

Your skills and answers are appreciated. You can ask me about anything ecommerce or merchant services related.

Thanks!

Bob

Free Web Analytics – Need to add code to every page?

Posted on October 4th, 2009 by admin

I am looking for a Free Analytics service for my ecommerce website. I know of AddFreeStats and Google Analytics. Will I need to add code to every page in my website in order to track customers? If so, what is the easiest way to do that? I use Yahoo Merchant Solutions. Thank you

You will need the code in every page that you want stats to be taken from. The best way is to use a include function. My favorite php’s include.
Thats for any 3rd ware Analytics tools. Some web hosts have built in ones, like in Cpanel. Not sure about the others, but they wouldn’t require any code to be pasted.

If you have any other questions, feel free to contact.

[php include code]
(Note: all files have to be .php. It has to be a server side script to do it. Otherwise you can simple copy n paste the code in each page.)
<?
include(’otherjunk.php’);

you will probably enter a weight for your item when you enter your prices. it should do it automatically based on the items weight, just like the post office.

I need HELP! Building an ecommerce site…?

Posted on September 30th, 2009 by admin

I know there have to be some folks out there who can help me.
Jeez, I have looked for two days (literally) for a reasonable commerce hosting website that offers a shopping cart where your buyers can check out without me having to sign up for a very expensive merchant account. I hate Paypal, too (they’re crooks). I’ve read some really bad reviews about Yahoo’s services so I’m on the fence about them, and they’re not cheap either. Any advice on hosting websites that are reliable and offer checkout without asking for your first-born? Thanks in advance!

Take a look at: http://threehosts.atspace.com/business There you can reach the three reputable companies that are leaders in the E-commerce web hosting industry.

ecommerce shopping cart for free?

Posted on September 28th, 2009 by admin

i am building a website and i need shopping cart.i have googled it but all i can find it very expensive services and they charge per month.
does anyone know is there any free software for building shopping cart or maybe does any merchant service provides you with the shopping cart?

Magento is the way to go when looking for a free cart. Oscommerce is horrible and I speak from experience. It gets hacked and it is badly designed. That goes for all other flavors and forks of oscommerce as well.

When you are ready for an amazing commercial cart Interspire is awesome but Magento will do fine when working with a tight budget.

If you need help installing magento just use their excellent forums. If you need hosting trymy hosting service: www.henryweismann.com. I will install the store for you if you purchase any web hosting plan. I hope that helps…have a great day.
