How many and which languages are Yahoo! Store / Merchant Solutions available in? Can’t find it in help files..

Posted on August 26th, 2009 by admin

I thought the Yahoo! Store / Yahoo! Merchant Solutions ecommerce platform was available in at least Spanish, French, and German, but I’m having a hard time verifying that. Thanks in advance to anyone who knows which languages Yahoo! Store supports. For "extra credit" [;-)], it would be great to know the URLs one would go to in order to set up a Yahoo! Store in these non-English languages.

Hi. I’m pretty sure that Yahoo! Merchant Solutions is available in English only at this time. Good luck!

Is it illegal for a merchant to ask for a driver’s license when making a credit card purchase?

Posted on August 26th, 2009 by admin

Yesterday I had my vehicle serviced at a local transmission shop (I live in Dallas, Texas) I paid my bill with a Master Card, they ask for my driver license. I found this to be redundant, because a credit card is a form of ID. Then they proceeded to make a photo copy of both, my DL and my credit card. When I questioned this, I got the popular, “It is company policy” response. Is this illegal, or at the very least does it violate Master Card policy?

Long answer but…..
As others have said it is perfectly legal to ask for an ID. Some places don’t bother but many do and they ave that right. Actually it is disirable that they do in case someone steals, clones or finds your card. Many people, including myself take a marker and write "see ID" over the signature on the back…… for the same purpose.

Now the one answer you got about photocopying a license is thought provoking. Though they have the right to SEE an ID I seriously doubt that they are doing the right thing regarding photocopying both.

The credit card info is sent and recorded electronically and the merchant can retrieve this information anytime….. so there is no need to photocopy it. Plus copying it would also show what bank or company issued it (say Capital One or Citibank) making it so much easier to know who to call and say they are you or clone the card.

Reciepts and service records usually show only that it was a Mastercard, expiration date and only the last 4 digits of your account number with the rest of the digits shown as an "X". This is because anybody viewing a record or reciept would have all that they need. If the merchant needed this info they have to call in with a merchant # and such…….. which only those in authority have the final #. What? Your info is in a paper file that anybody can get to or what if someone broke in?

As an aside if they copied the back of the card as well I would go to town. With the 3 or 4 digit number on the back and an account number anybody could order stuff off of the net. In your complaints to whomever you could say "how do I know that they did not copy the back?".

Now copying the license and this is the same paper file? No way. You legally showed ID and that is supposed to be enough. License and card info in one place? That is a ready made do-it-yourself idenity theft kit. Address, birthdate, license number, etc…….. shoot, anybody with $15.00 could figure out your mothers maiden name on the net.

You have every reason to get angry (but leave out a card is ID thing). If you are irritated enough or just to cover your butt……. call Mastercard and speak with someone. Not the first person you get but get to something like a "senior resolution" person. That person will have to look into things. If you have to change your info all the better as it is an inconvience….. all the better.

If the place is part of a chain or franchised (like Goodyear)contact the main company. Inall that you do get names, times, case numbers, what was said etc.

You could just go down there and demand the copies since why would they need them once the charge has cleared? If they refuse again all the better.

If you really want to get to it call some local TV station. In this day and age of theft and post 9-11 stuff they would hop on this in a heartbeat. Though this may not be your aim I am betting that regardless of what you do you will get some or all of your money back. Is this wrong….. no as you spent time dealing with it. And they will have to change things and maybe even one person will not have to spend years repairing their credit.

How to set up a merchant account to accept credit cards without a personal guarantor?

Posted on August 26th, 2009 by admin

All of our buisness’ equiptment and vehicles have been financed without personal guarantor. We would like to accept credit cards for our services, but will not put our personal numbers on the contract.

Some merchant account providers will allow you to use alternative forms of guarantees in place of a personal guarantee. These options include:

1) A corporate resolution – your business provides documents (balance sheets, third party prepared financial statements) that shows the business is strong enough to guarantee itself

2) Provide a letter of credit – a letter of credit basically is a loan that your bank promises to give you at a future date. The catch is you don’t get to ask for it. The processing bank does, They can only invoke it if you owe them money and they are unable to get those funds from you. It is like an insurance policy.

3) A reserve – the processing bank will hold some of your funds in reserve to cover any exposure for loss they might have. 6 months or so after you close your account they give it all back to you. They may give it back sooner if you have processed for along time and shown to be a low risk merchant.

Keep in mind not all processors offer these alternative although most offer at least one of them.

I am starting a home based travel agency and need a credit card merchant account. Any suggestions?

Posted on August 26th, 2009 by admin

Travel agencies are considered a high risk account in the merchant processing industry. You should have all business info available when contacting a processor including federal ID, business financials and history. For a new business, the personal history of the owner(s) is very important, so have all of your ducks in a row and be able to offer your personal financial information to validate the underwriting of your account. A credit score of 618 or below or a recent bankruptcy are examples of factors that will probably send you into high-risk territory and pretty rough rates. If you clear these things you should be in good shape.

Also, be very careful when choosing. Your nature of business will probably accept a high amount of rewards and corporate cards. These cards are considered non-qualified by many processors and are charged a much higher rate (sometimes double) than the low rate you are quoted.

Lastly, DON’T LEASE A TERMINAL or sign a term contract unless you really are in a pinch financially. This is how many processors make their money off of you and you will pay a higher total effective rate in the long run.

How much does it cost if i’ll be subscribing to the service of an adult merchant account provider?

Posted on August 26th, 2009 by admin

Your cost depends highly on the type of adult product you are selling, and most importantly, the associated risk of chargebacks.

For example, an adult bookstore will have the lowest rate in this category because transactions take place face-to-face, and the credit or debit card is swiped in a terminal. This account would be a domestic account opposed to an offshore account.

In this example, the bulk of your cost will be: The cost of the terminal (depending on its features $200-$500), a percentage of the transaction (around 2%), and a per transaction fee ($0.25 – $0.35).

It’s hard to give you an exact cost without knowing the type of business you are in. Get some quotes from a few processors to get a good idea. You can get a fee quote from the company I represent by following the links below:

Hey Folks,Are there any trusted credit card merchant services ?

Posted on August 26th, 2009 by admin

Can someone please give me a trusted payment processor for my online store. Don’t say paypal, authorize.net. If you haven’t been screwed by them then you were in the back of the line when everyone else was in front.

I hear YOU loud and clear serach yahoo or google for the best deal YOU can find to accept CC’s and E checks

I had one years ago but i didnt know how to advertise and my biz went kaboom

service was sucky also wound up with 3 payments per month to 3 differnt sources

YOU want ONE Credit Card server with one office to pay your fees some are very cheap yearly rates

some use 5% on your prices of sold products

BUT they are secure NO one can enter a fraudelent account or stolen Card !

Re: Merchant Solutions Processing fees.?

Posted on August 26th, 2009 by admin

In the small business plans, is the transaction fees based on sales price of item or are the transaction fees based on the total including freight and shippin and handling??

If you are talking of merchant accounts, the fee is based on the amount the customer paid to you — even if that includes the sales price and the shipping fee

The amount you will pay depends on the amount you swiped in the credit card machine or keyed in your credit card machine.

So if the total amount you swiped in the credit card of the customer is $100 — even if the product amount is $90 and $10 is the shipping fee — then your transaction and other fees wil be based on that $100.

Looking for a high risk payment processor (merchant account)?

Posted on August 26th, 2009 by admin

I’m going to try and ask this question one last time. I am looking for a payment processor for a adult dating site. I have searched for weeks for one in the US and so far none that accept this type of business so I am now looking for payment processing companies in other countries. Please do not respond is you are doing a quick search and post a few names that show up. I have already done that. I am wanting to hear from people that use a company and can suggest a company that they use or have used with having no problems with them.

The only one that I know of is charge.com I have been recently looking for a high risk merchant payment gateway as well (though not for adult related industry) and aside from some offshore places, they were the only one that would take me on. I ended up forming another company that has absolutly nothing to do with my business and getting a merchant account for that company. Since my original company owns 51% of the new company, it is legal for me to use it to pull my payments.

Hope this helps.
