What to do if someone use other people’s credit card number to make a purchase on your website?

Posted on August 30th, 2009 by admin

1. If someone stole other people’s credit card and make a purchase on a web site, and the victim filed a dispute with the credit card company, the website merchant will receive a chargeback. What should the merchant do to avoid this type chargeback record, especially the web site offers online services which is not tangible goods?

2. Even the merchant proved that this is someone else’s fraudulent transaction, will the fraudulent transaction amount counted toward the charegeback amount in the merchant’s merchant account? Who will suffer as a victim here – the merchant service bank or the merchant or the credit card issuer? It doesn’t make sense to hold the merchant responsible for the fraud since this is an online transaction and there is no way the merchant can prevent this, especially the fraudulent transaction has the correct 3-digit or 4-digit number and correct street address.

3. what should you do? report to the police and get the police to catch those people?

1) Avoiding this kind of chargeback comes down to good fraud screening by the merchant. You need to start with AVS and CVV and then move on to better tools. There are tools out there that can reduce your exposure to these kind of chargebacks. It is called Verified by Visa and MasterCard Securecode. If you use these tools you can never lose a chargeback because the person claims they didn’t make the purchase. The reason being they have to use a special PIN number and if they use it that proves they are the cardholder and cannot claim it was stolen or they didn’t authorize the purchase. I suggest looking into them. (Keep in mind you still can get chargebacks but these tools will reduce the kinds you can get which means less chargebacks overall).

2) When it comes down to online sales the customer ALWAYS wins the chargeback dispute. This is because only swiped transactions (i.e. face-to-face transactions) are merchants given the benefit of the doubt. But online the merchant always loses their funds with Visa and MasterCard. (With American Express you may win under very rare circumstances). Basically the burden of verifying the user falls entirely on the merchant. That’s why you need to make sure you have the right tools in place when processing online.

3) You can report them to the FBI (since it most likely occurs over state lines) but it is a waste of time. Unless the total amount is very large they won’t even investigate it. They don’t consider it worth their resources.

Where can i find merchant who will allow me to process credit cards for online payment service?

Posted on August 30th, 2009 by admin

Hello!
I have a lot of time that i am searching to find an company who will allow me to process credit cards via this system:
http://www.blizsoft.com/enterprise/
Credit cards would be used for users to upload funds on the system.
It is almost same system as moneybookers, paypal etc.

The problem that i see is the business type of the system.
I am not in the US.
Any help will be very very appriciated.

The problem is you don’t need another company to accept payments with that system. They are a third party processor which means they are their own payment system. You can’t combine them with a true merchant account or another provider as it just doesn’t work that way (although you can accept multiple forms of payment on your website if you so choose).

So, if you want to use that system, just sign up for them and start using them.

How much does it cost to get a merchant account?

Posted on August 30th, 2009 by admin

I am just beginning a website and want to accept credit cards. How much will a merchant account cost? Where is a good place to establish such an account? Thanks.

You can find free offers that waive any setup fees but you should look carefully at the transaction fees. If you do a web search on "merchant account" you’ll see a lot of offers. The rates you’ll pay on the transaction will depend on the average price of your product and the risk of a charge-back. If you get too many charge-backs your price will go up and or you merchant account will get canceled.

To start out small check out Merchant Express

credit card payment debited but merchant not got the amount?

Posted on August 30th, 2009 by admin

i had made a online payment from my HDFC bank credit card for indiatimes shopping. amount has been credited to my credit card but merchant is denying that having received that money, in fact my order also has been cancelled.
but bank is not providing me enough proof with that i can prove to merchant that payment has been credited to his account.
what i can do in this regard. Anoone has answer for it?

Take a print out of the proof that you paid. go to the bank and ask them to do the needful. If the payment is not yet made, they will proceed with the payment. If that can not be done then they will refund you.

Normall banks will not refuse to help in this matter as this is a very known issue. try to have a written proof of everything so if you have to proceed legally that will help.

Can you relly make money in Merchant Services. I am going to work for Abn-Amro Merchant Services?

Posted on August 30th, 2009 by admin

It is not an easy business to get into. You have to know a lot of business owners who will be willing to listen to your sales pitch. The process of "courting" them to switch to your provider can take a long time – they need to first know you, develop a relationship with them, even going to their restaurant to eat several times if you are targeting restaurant owners. You need to be a familiar face to them – before they take out their merchant account statements from which you can compute the savings they will get by switching to you.

It is a business where you need to be always out and on the move, always networking. If you are good at sales, then go for it.

The money was not as high as we first expected, and look at your contract with them. Some companies stop your recurring earnings if you become inactive in a quarter (if you decide to just sit out and wait for your monthly commissions)

How can I make sure that the funds are safely processed in an offshore merchant account?

Posted on August 30th, 2009 by admin

My dad’s business has an offshore merchant account, and I just want to make sure that the money we pour in actually goes in it. your ideas will be very much appreciated!

why does he have an offshore account…?

If you company is on the up & up and if your banking arrangements are with a reputable bank, there would not be a problem and you could ask for receipt of funds notification.

What is the best way to protect my e-book files from hackers who wish to download them without paying?

Posted on August 30th, 2009 by admin

I am a high risk merchant that sell e-books online and I know some strategies such as not providing download urls, but anyone knows what is the best technique to avoid hackers from stealing my files?

Hackers are the least of your problems. Your biggest problem is your paying customers. Most e-book formats out there can be cracked rather easily, if you have the right software. So once someone buys your e-book, there’s nothing to prevent them from sharing it with the whole world…
